What is third-party verification?
“You don’t get what you expect, you get what you inspect,” Tony Zornik - A Buyers Home Inspection Company.
We work with two nationally recognized new home programs, HOME PERFORMANCE WITH ENERGY STAR and LEED for Homes Program, to ensure that your home meets a set of required standards to be certified under these programs. The certification is important because it guarantees that contractors are maintaining high standards, gives you peace of mind that the work is done right, and furthermore, may help you to qualify for tax incentives or Energy Efficient Morgtgages.
Third party verification is a critical component of the process. All homes that have earned the ENERGY STAR label have had their energy efficiency independently verified by an inspector known as a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater. These professionals advise builders and remodelers on how to select the most appropriate energy-efficient features for a home, inspect and test the home during construction and then verify that the home meets EPA’s strict guidelines for energy efficiency.
What is Home Performance with Energy Star?
ENERGY STAR is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency created the ENERGY STAR program to promote and reward homes that are built or upgraded to be more energy efficient. The ENERGY STAR label on a new home means that it is significantly more efficient than a standard home. ENERGY STAR home builders achieve this high efficiency through a variety of features, including effective insulation, high performance windows, tight construction and ducts, highly efficient heating and cooling equipment, and ENERGY STAR lighting and appliances.
What is LEED for Homes?
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED for Homes is a voluntary initiative promoting the transformation of the mainstream home building industry towards more sustainable practices. This program provides a complete framework for homebuilders, homeowners and local governments for building environmentally sound, healthy and resource-efficient homes. LEED emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
OnPoint is your certified LEED for Homes verifier in Idaho. We provide technical, marketing and verification support to builders in order to support them in the construction of high performance, sustainable homes.
